In life one may get the rare opportunity of acquiring a scholarship but with guidance and help from those who know the value of a
good education this milestone can be achieved. The Jonathan Hibbert scholarship foundation has been a mother for many where this
is concerned in providing opportunities where they might have seemed vague. This foundation was started in 2006 and has continued
on its annual quest to create more opportunities for students by having an organized day of competition in which each person gets to
prove themselves under the watchful eyes of coaches that are invited to grant scholarships to deserving players. It must be noted
though that if one is interested in acquiring a scholarship there is a two way street in which to encounter. These streets include
education and the second street includes how good you are as a football player. When I say Education I mean getting good grades
in school and taking the S.A.T exams and getting a good score. One simply cannot work without the other. This is where you must
make a commitment and sacrifice to yourself in being disciplined enough to balance both football and doing your schoolwork.

The Jonathan Hibbert scholarship foundation is mostly responsible for me acquiring a scholarship in order to pursue my studies and
also to play football. Through hard work, discipline and dedication I was able to get it done and I have still been able to because I
haven’t lost those values. I have successfully completed one year at the University of Maine at Fort Kent both in my academics and
football. I have made the honor role for every semester during the first year with an accumulative GPA of 3.4 getting all As and Bs in
all my courses. I also had a great year in football in which I received awards for Rookie of the year, offensive player of the year, two
times player of the week, Region x(ten) player of the year and I also made the all conference team. My most outstanding achievement
for last season though was being the leading scorer in the United States in the NAIA division 1 league with 27 goals in 21 games.
My university won the conference, the region and also made it to the national tournament for the first in its history with a record of
21-1-0 losing the only game of the season in the second round of the national tournament. It was an excellent year and I look forward to
surpassing those achievements for the upcoming school year.

There are also other Jamaican players at my university that have been helped by the foundation. These include Dwayne Smith,
Giovanni Sinclair, Oniqueky Samuels, Walford Stewart, Damion Stone, Tashana Rowe and Jodiann Blake. All of these players have been doing
well both in their studies and also in football and are definitely making Jamaica proud.

Some key tips for those who are interested in acquiring a scholarship are:

  • Take your SAT exams early so that u can present them to the coaches first hand- This will help to speed up the process in
helping to complete the scholarship process quickly and efficiently,

  • Try your best to get and maintain good grades in high school,

  • Develop a positive and disciplined attitude in setting goals and sticking to achieving those goals

  • Last but not least always put God first.
